INTERNSHIP

internship is nothing but temporary employment in an organization. It can paid or unpaid. Usually it emphasizes more on On the Job Training than Employment. Most Universities offer Internship Opportunities.

You are eligible for Internships only after the completion of two semesters of course work. The Most common form of internship is summer internships.These are offered in the summer vacation which is of 3 and a half months in US universities. Only students who came in last fall can apply for summer internship due to the two semesters rule. If you came in fall then the best time to start applying for internships is early spring.



For Internship

1.You need to be on CPT

2.While on CPT you can either work for 20 hours per week or 40 hours per week during the summer semester. If you work 20 hours per week then you can register for 3 or more courses during the summer. If you work 40 hours per week you can register for less than 3 courses which means either 2,1 or 0 courses in summer.

3.If you want you can extend your internships to 11 months or 364 days. i.e it should be less than one year or 365 days. If you exceed this period then you won't be able to work on OPT.

4. Internships are good way to make money since you don't have pay any taxes when on CPT.

5.Internships also helps you getting full time job. Ususally the company which offers you internship offer you a full time job.

Tips to increase your chances of getting a summer internship:

* Have a professional resume and cover letter.
* Start finding people in your field of work through friends and also register in the university internships program usually every university has a internships department.
* Use Internet and Job sites for finding internship postings.
* Most Positions are unadvertised so don't just rely on internet and other media, find about local companies and go meet the HR person personally through appointment.
* Apply as early as possible and follow up with employers.
